“I don’t know how you do it! I can’t imagine being with my kids all day long. I could never!”
Heard these phrases before? Well if not yet, once you start homeschooling, you will!
So why did we decide to do this crazy thing that most people would never….
I’m going to break down why we started homeschooling below…
- I wanted my kids to have a Christian-based education – meaning God is a part of each and every day and we can spend as much time as we want learning about God’s words and how to live by them. To create good and loving humans is my goal, so character building though God’s word is essential to me. I also wanted to be their biggest influence, not their peers.
- I wanted my kids to have 1:1 support. Classrooms can be overwhelming with 20-30 kids (I know from my former teaching experience). Students unfortunately can’t get much individual support which hurts those at all levels. I wanted to be able to teach my kids above or below grade level if needed, to make sure they understood concepts before moving on. We are able to go at our own pace.
- I wanted a laid-back lifestyle. I’m not made for the hustle. The getting up early, the stress of getting out the door with everyone’s clothes on, teeth brushed, hair fixed, lunches made, water bottles and snacks packed, and then fighting traffic….was not for me. Each day was a tense-filled hour of our lives, and I wanted a calmer routine, less fights, and a more loving atmosphere.
- I wanted to expand their learning . Forgot workbooks all day. We are able to get outside, go on field trips, have real-world experiences & and real-life discussions. We don’t have to stick to a script. We can learn wherever our interests take us.
Those are the top 4 reasons we decided to homeschool… what about you? Let me know below. And if you’re not homeschooling yet, let me know what your hesitation is. I’d love to support you if I can.
In faith and love,
